November National Home Care Month| Best Home Health Midland Tx| Abilene TX

Posted on Updated on

IMG_7413Happy Home Care Month!
November is National Home Care Month!
HOC Homecare recognizes the dedication, compassion and skill of all home care workers across America!

IMG_6985

There are over 70 million baby boomers who are retiring and soon to retire; these staggering numbers, coupled with today’s extended life spans, means there will be need for a lot of caregivers. The value of caregivers who help elderly persons cannot be measured. Independence and the ability to remain at home are two of the most important things to the aging senior adult.

IMG_7414

It’s true that aging adults prefer to remain in their own homes. They may just need a little help around the home in order to retain their independence, or maybe they have a medical condition that requires a visiting nurse to observe and assess their status. An elderly adult returning from hospital or recovering from an accident or surgery might require occupational or physical therapy.

IMG_7419

When compared to living in a facility, home care offers a greater level of independence to the senior adult. The caregiver is there to help and give assistance when needed, or to encourage the adult to do as much as possible. Sometimes all that’s needed is a little assistance. The caregiver can give as much or as little as the senior adult desires. Being able to stay at home as opposed to being put into institutionalized care is a level of independence all its own.

IMG_7417

Home care has become the most popular choice of care for the senior adult. The high cost of assisted living and other long-term institutional care options combined with the long waiting lists to get in has got more families looking into the home care solutions. In surveys, most senior adults expressed their desire to age at home in familiar surroundings. Home care fits perfectly for these aging seniors.

IMG_7426.JPG

There is also the factor that home care comes in all levels, from daytime only to around the clock care; from part time to fulltime, from home care to health care. The flexibility of care type makes it a very appealing choice.

IMG_7416-0

National Home Care Month also honors all those who assist the elderly senior stay in their own home.

IMG_7418
Did you know that Florence Nightingale in addition to her role in initiating nursing education programs, was also involved in developing nursing for the sick poor at home and in workhouses through her work for poor law and workhouse reform of the 1860s.
Yes!
We are very thankful for her contributions in public health.

At Hands of Compassion we

IMG_7422
agree with Florence Nightingale and deliver care to many who can not afford to pay and some whom have been treated as lepers….

IMG_7421

It is your right to age gracefully in the comfort of your home when possible.
We appreciate all of the HOC Homecare team for all they do 365 days of the year (rain, snow, sleet,or shine.)

Just like the mailman our job must go on… 😁

And we do it with grateful hearts as we honor and serve with dignity those who have earned the Home health benefit.

Best Home Health Midland Texas| Best Home Health Abilene Texas | Healthy Aging® Month — 10 Tips To Celebrate

Posted on Updated on

Think it’s too late to “reinvent” yourself? Think again. It’s never too late to find a new career, a new sport, passion, or hobby.
September is Healthy Aging® Month, an annual health observance designed to focus national attention on the positive aspects of growing older, began over 20 years ago. According to Carolyn Worthington, publisher of Healthy Aging® Magazine, September is Healthy Aging® Month provides inspiration and practical ideas for adults, ages 50-plus, to improve their physical, mental, social, and financial well being.”
“Use September as the motivation to take stock of where you’ve been, what you really would like to do,” Worthington said. “Make your list based on your gut feelings and thoughts, no-holds-barred.
“And try it! Who says you have to do something related to what you studied in school? Who says, you can’t become an entrepreneur, start your own home business later in life, test your physical prowess, or do something wildly different from anything you’ve done before? Live somewhere else, somewhere exciting? Only that person you see in the mirror!”
To get you started on reinventing yourself, here are some ideas from the editors of Healthy Aging® Magazine (www.healthyaging.net). Maybe they will help you think “outside the cage” or outside the box:

10 Tips for Reinventing Yourself during September Is Healthy Aging® Month:
1. Do not act your age or at least what you think your current age should act like. What was your best year so far? 28? 40? Now? Picture yourself at that age and be it. Some people may say this is denial, but we say it’s positive thinking and goes a long way toward feeling better about yourself. (Tip: Don’t keep looking in the mirror, just FEEL IT!)

2. Be positive in your conversationsand your actions every day. When you catch yourself complaining, check yourself right there and change the conversation to something positive. (Tip: Stop watching the police reports on the local news.)

3. Ditch the downer friends. Have negative friends who complain all of the time and constantly talk about how awful everything is? Drop them. As cruel as that may sound, distance yourself from people who do not have a positive outlook on life. They will only depress you and stop you from moving forward. Surround yourself with energetic, happy, positive people of all ages and you will be happier too. (Tip: Smile often. It’s contagious and wards off naysayers.)

4. Walk like a vibrant, healthy person. Come on. You can probably do it. Analyze your gait. Do you walk slowly because you have just become lazy or, perhaps, have a fear of falling? (Tip: Make a conscious effort to take big strides, walk with your heel first, and wear comfortable shoes.)

5. Stand up straight! You can knock off the appearance of a few extra years with this trick your mother kept trying to tell you. Look at yourself in the mirror. Are you holding your stomach in, have your shoulders back, chin up? Check out how much better your neck looks! Fix your stance and practice it every day, all day until it is natural. You will look great and feel better. (Tip: Your waistline will look trimmer if you follow this advice.)

6. How’s your smile? Research shows people who smile more often are happier. Your teeth are just as important to your good health as the rest of your body. Not only is it the first thing people notice, but good oral health is a gateway to your overall well-being. (Tip: Go to the dentist regularly and look into teeth whitening. Nothing says old more than yellowing teeth!)

7. Lonely? Stop brooding and complaining about having no friends or family. Do something about it now. Right this minute. Pick up the phone, landline, or cell and make a call to do one or more of the following: Volunteer your time, take a class, invite someone to meet for lunch, brunch, dinner, or coffee. (Tip: Volunteer at the local public school to stay in touch with younger people and to keep current on trends, take a computer class or a tutorial session at your cell phone store to keep up with technology, choose a new person every week for your dining out.)

8. Start walking not only for your health but to see the neighbors. Have a dog? You’ll be amazed how the dog can be a conversation starter. (Tip: If you don’t have time for a dog, go to your local animal shelter and volunteer. You will be thrilled by the puppy love!)

9. Get a physical. Make this month the time to set up your annual physical and other health screenings. Go to the appointments and then, hopefully, you can stop worrying about ailments for a while. (Tip: For a list of recommended annual health screenings, a great resource is the My Health Finder. Here’s what Medicare Covers.

10. Find your inner artist. Who says taking music lessons is for young school children? You may have an artist lurking inside you just waiting to be tapped. Have you always wanted to play the piano, violin, or tuba? Have you ever wondered if you could paint a portrait or scenic in oil? What about working in wood? (Tip: Sign up now for fall art or music classes and discover your inner artist!)

Keep Calm; Nurses Rock | Home Health Care Midland TX | Nurses Week 2015 #HOC

Posted on Updated on

Midland, TX, May 06, 2015— Hands of Compassion Home Care, Top Agency Nationwide, had the honor of celebrating National Nurse’s Week with some of the most impactful and hardworking nurses in the basin. National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.  As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year.

NationalNursesWeek_LOGOnodate400px

The nursing profession has been supported and promoted by the American Nurses Association (ANA) since 1896. Each of ANA’s state and territorial nurses associations promotes the profession at the state and regional levels. Each conducts celebrations on these dates to recognize the contributions that nurses and nursing make to the community. Here at H.O.C., it is no secret that we continually find special ways to show appreciation for all of our patients, doctors, partners and staff, of course our nurses are no exception.

For the past few years, Hands of Compassion Home Care has celebrated with their RNs, LVNs and CNAs during National Nurse’s Week just to remind them of their value and our gratitude.  This year we have opened up our celebration to our fellow nurses within the community.  H.O.C. invites you to join our celebration this year. H.O.C. values all of the clinical staff we work with on a daily basis and therefore we are showing our appreciation on this special day.

Keep Calm; Nurses Rock will be held on May 6th from 11am until 3pm. The location will be at the Beal Ranch House Park.   We invite all Nurses to come by and join us.

Bloomberg Radio | The Price of Business | Features Larry Harmon- How Do Your Employees Know You Care? | Home Health Care Midland Tx

DSC03846Our very own, Mr. Larry Harmon, was interviewed for Bloomberg Radio this past week and we were jumping with excitement when it was finally published on The Price of Business webpage, http://www.priceofbusiness.com/?p=4288. #HOC has always celebrated in the capability they possess to stand out in the face of challenge and competition.  We are humbled and grateful that our efforts have not gone unnoticed and could not be more appreciative.

Mr.Hamon was asked a few questions, that he so eloquently answered, and here’s what was said:

Tell us how you show your employees that you care? We show employees we care by fostering a positive work environment where everyone has value and by recognizing achievements of each employee openly to further demonstrate our commitment to agency goals as well as the growth and development of the person in the course of doing what we do…We [also] have functions outside of the workplace in the forms of picnics (July 4th, Good Friday Easter Egg Hunt), special gatherings…” and this gives us the ability to show our employees, rather than tell them, how much we truly appreciate them and their hard work.

ImageImageImage

What mistakes do businesses make when it comes to cultivating a strong relationship with their employees? “Sometimes during the course of demonstrating commitment to employees, we tend to drift away from accountability by not stressing the importance of their being actively engaged in the things that make all of us better; proper work ethic, integrity, and compassion. Another mistake is not showing appreciation when goals are met or not holding everyone to the same standard, thereby negatively impacting morale (particularly the higher achievers).”

Image

Why is it important for your firm to make employees feel valued? “When our employees feel valued we believe it has a direct correlation on their productivity. Also when people are built up on the inside it allows them to freely express outwardly what’s taking place inwardly.”

Nurses Rock | Home Health Care Midland Tx | Nurses Week 2014

Posted on Updated on

Image

Of course they do, would we love them so much if they didn’t! Nurses work so hard to get where they are: nursing school, clinicals, exams and all the while juggling reality.  We know how proud they have to be of themselves, how proud their families are, but we also want to express how proud we are.

We know that the first one or two years after school can probably be the hardest for our loving nurses, but they wake up the next day, next month, next year, and keep going–they never give up! Perseverance is one character trait that we know every nurse must have, where they are in school, life and their careers speaks for itself

Here at #HOC, we are honored to be able to celebrate the #AMAZING, one-of-a-kind nurses that have been sent our way. We don’t believe in coincidences, so we know that our #compassionate #nurses were God-sent.  Thanks to our #super nurses, they have help pave the way for #HOC’s fourth year in a row as a Top Agency Nationwide. We couldn’t be more thankful, without them, we wouldn’t, we couldn’t be where we are and be headed where we need to go.

ImageImageImage

Every year at HOC, we conjure up the biggest celebration for our nurses, just to *show* our appreciation for them. In 2011, our theme was “Nurses in Hollywood“–elvis even made an appearance. In 2012, our nurses’ celebration was themed “Nurses Just Want to Have Fun” and we gave them a full-blown carnival experience with everything from game booths, vendors and, of course, caramel apples. In 2013, we celebrated our nurses by throwing them a “Nurses in Paradise Safari” celebration with all the fun accessories of being in paradise: straw hats, coconut drinks and what more than a zebra patterned cake!

This year was no exception. With the wild and crazy ideas of our administrator, and organizational skills of our Operations Manager, we put together what has to be one of the best Nurse’s Celebration to date. Take a look:

ImageImageImage

I seriously haven’t had so many emotions all in one day!  I felt like a kid again and I loved it! Thanks for allowing us to “feel” your appreciation for our hard work,” said R.N., Mayra Ramos (middle: photographed on ropes course).

ImageImageImage

I had a blast! I haven’t laughed like that in a long time,” exclaimed LVN, Anabelia Jasso (right: photographed during laser tag).

ImageImageImage

Thanks for the AWESOME time! I haven’t had THAT much fun in AGES!“-R.N., Melissa Miller (lower center on left: photographed before games).

DSC03988

To sum it all up, we love our nurses, we love what they do for us, for our patients and for the company. We want to wish all our special nurses across the nation a Happy #National #Nurses #Week. Have fun, and always remember, you ARE a Superhero in Scrubs!

National Nurse’s Week 2014

A Brief History of National Nurse’s Week

National Nurses Week begins each year on May 6th and ends on May 12th, Florence Nightingale’s birthday.  As of 1998, May 8 was designated as National Student Nurses Day, to be celebrated annually. And as of 2003, National School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week (May 6-12) each year.

Each conducts celebrations on these dates to recognize the contributions that nurses and nursing make to the community.

1982 In February, the ANA Board of Directors formally acknowledged May 6, 1982 as “National Nurses Day.” The action affirmed a joint resolution of the United States Congress designating May 6 as “National Recognition Day for Nurses.”

1982 President Ronald Reagan signed a proclamation on March 25, proclaiming “National Recognition Day for Nurses” to be May 6, 1982.

1990 The ANA Board of Directors expanded the recognition of nurses to a week-long celebration, declaring May 6 – 12, 1991, as National Nurses Week.

1993 The ANA Board of Directors designated May 6 – 12 as permanent dates to observe National Nurses Week in 1994 and in all subsequent years.

1996 The ANA initiated “National RN Recognition Day” on May 6, 1996, to honor the nation’s indispensable registered nurses for their tireless commitment 365 days a year. The ANA encourages its state and territorial nurses associations and other organizations to acknowledge May 6, 1996 as “National RN Recognition Day.”
